KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Jeremy Johnson says he is lucky to be alive after his car was hit by a train early Tuesday morning.
Johnson, 21, suffered a bloody nose and a few minor scrapes when a Norfolk Southern train hit his 2008 Honda Accord as he crossed the tracks at Agnes Road, east of Northshore Drive.
"God was looking out for me," he said.
Johnson's car wound up in a ditch and hit a utility pole.
The train was not damaged.
"It was a miracle, I'm not going to lie," Johnson said. "I did not see it coming. I looked that way, thought the train was coming this way, and apparently it was coming this way. It knocked me way into a ditch."
Johnson says the crossing lights were working and the train sounded its horn, but he didn't notice them until after he was hit.
