Bus carrying middle schoolers involved in minor accident

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knox County school bus was involved in a minor accident Wednesday morning.

Bus 101, which was carrying students headed for South Doyle Middle School, rear-ended another car around 8 a.m. on Chapman Highway near Stone Road.

About 40 students were on board. Several students complained of aches and were treated by a school nurse.

One student who had a previous leg injury complained of pain in the leg following the incident and was taken to Tennova for treatment.

The driver of the car was taken to Fort Sanders Medical Center for treatment of neck and back pain.

An alternate bus picked up students and delivered them to the school.

The bus driver, Eric Esterl, 40, was required to report for screening, which is standard protocol in incidents such as these.

He was later cited for following too closely.
