Officials rescue man trapped in South Knoxville cave

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Officials rescued a man who was trapped in a cave in South Knoxville, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.

The call came in around 3:30 p.m., and the cave is located by Cherokee Trail and Spruce Ridge Way.

According to Capt. DJ Corcoran, the man was not injured, but he was 60 yards down inside the cave when his foot became lodged.

Fifteen firefighters assisted in removing the man.

The Knoxville Fire Department said that when exploring the wilderness, people should go in a group. Someone needs to have a charged cell phone, a first aid kit and drinking water. If you go by yourself, let someone know where you will be and when they can expect your return.
