High water was especially a concern in Monroe and Blount counties, where several roads have been reported underwater.
The Red Cross opened a shelter in Blount County for people being evacuated due to flooding. The shelter is at Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church, 7322 Old Tuckaleechee Road, near Townsend.
The Townsend Area Volunteer Fire Dept evacuated four people from Dark Island off of Karns Rd. after waters washed out a bridge there. Several families in the area decided to stay and wait it out.
More than 2.5 inches of rain has fallen in most areas of East Tennessee since the system arrived Sunday night.
An additional 2-3" of rain is expected to fall Tuesday, especially in localized areas.
A Flood Warning has been issued for Blount, Monroe and Sevier counties until 1 p.m.
As a result a Flood Advisory has been issued for Union County and all counties south that are in the WATE 6 viewing area. That includes Knox County. The advisory will remain in effect until 9 a.m.
A River Flood Warning is in effect for Cocke and Jefferson counties in the areas around the French Broad River. That warning will likely remain in effect until Thursday as the river continues to rise from run off from higher elevations.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Fentress and Cumberland counties until 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
A Flood Watch is in effect for all areas except Fentress and Cumberland counties, and Kentucky until 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Rain will continue to fall in the area through tonight. The Plateau may see some wintry mix showing in the morning, but it will change to all rain by mid-morning. The valley and mountains are all rain with a high temperature of 46 degrees F.
The Plateau could see light wintry precipitation again Tuesday night.
Rain will finally taper off Wednesday, but a few more spotty showers could return on Thursday.
