Gun enthusiasts upset about looming gun control announcement

KINGSTON (WATE) – On Wednesday President Obama will unveil his proposals to fight gun violence in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. It was just over a month ago that a gunman killed 20 children and 6 adults in Newtown, CT.

Since then, the debate over gun control has intensified.

At the Frontier Firearms shooting range in Kingston, gun enthusiasts had a lot of tension to release over the issue.

"They're angry they have a man in the White House and a group of people who have decided once and for all that they are sick and tired of the constitution of the US," said owner Brent Williams, enraged at the looming crackdown.

The White House confirmed Tuesday that the president, among other things, will push for a ban on assault weapons when he unveils his gun violence package. At West Side Pawn they've seen a run on assault weapons. Despite a spike in prices customers are rushing in. Handguns are selling out as well.

"That's probably the biggest fear. The fear of what they may pass on the handguns," said Desmond Bruce, who works at the pawn shop.

Fear and panic that leads up to the president's announcement tomorrow. Die hard gun owners believe gun violence is not about the weapon, it's about the person holding it.
