GATLINBURG (WATE) - Rangers in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park discovered a the body of a hiker on the Appalachian Trail Wednesday afternoon.
The body was found at Tricorner Knob Shelter.
Park rangers have not yet released his name, but he's described as a male about 50 years of age.
He left Newfound Gap on Saturday morning with that intention of reaching Davenport Gap in North Carolina, a 30-mile distance.
A friend reported him missing when he didn't show up at an arranged meeting on Monday morning.
The cause of death has not been determined, but does not appear to be suspicious.
