FARRAGUT (WATE) - Before the sun even came up, shoppers were there as the doors opened on the long-anticipated Publix store near Turkey Creek.
"We have been dying to open this store," said store manager Imrich Kusner. "It's finally here. This store was actually pushed back a few months and we are really excited to finally get it open.
So far all customers agree it was worth the wait.
"Been waiting for it," said Christine Marquette. "I love it! It's clean and new and stocked and fresh."
"I think it's great," said Charlie Southard. "Great selection."
Shopper Chirs Rizzo added, "Good sales and good people."
The shelves are stocked with fresh new items for now, but with the city's first round of major winter weather on the way that may not be the case for long.
"I believe we're going to see more customers later on today, especially with the weather coming in," said Kusner. "It will get a little bit more aggressive."
Customers aren't letting the weather threat scare them too much, they're just enjoying the sales and playing it by ear.
"Just kind of winging it," said Rizzo. "Hoping for the best."
Others are taking a different approach.
"I try not get my expectations up I actually like snow so I'm looking forward to it and hope it happen," said Southard. "Bring it on."
Whatever happens employees say they are stocked and ready to help their new neighbors handle any storm.
The new Publix store is open till 10 p.m. daily and is located on Parkside Drive, just off Campbell Station Road.
