ALCOA (WATE) - McGhee Tyson Airport initiated its winter weather plan Thursday morning ahead of wintry weather expected later in the evening.
Airport officials say they keep a close eye on the weather and subscribe to several weather services.
They also keep track of the ground temperatures to make sure they know when they need to treat the runways.
Some delays and cancellations are expected on Thursday and need travelers to make sure their flights are still on schedule before coming to the airport.
They can do this by visiting the airport's website or contacting the airline they will be traveling with.
"We will continue to operate our facility and keep it open. That's our goal to continue to have operations go forth," said McGhee Tyson spokeswoman Becky Huckaby. "Be very cautious when you come to the airport, but we will be continuing to operate to the best of our abilities. That is why it's critical that you know about your flight info before you leave your home or office."
For iPhone users, McGhee Tyson Airport also has a new app, available on iTunes, where users can check their flight status.
