3 members of family missing in Polk County creek

BENTON (AP) - A search is resuming in Polk County where three members of a family are missing after a canoe capsized in Conasauga Creek.

According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, an adult and two children are missing after the accident on Wednesday. An adult and two other children made it safely to the creek bank. The creek was running fast because of rain.

Everyone involved belonged to one family in the Mennonite religious community of Delano. The names and ages of those missing and those who survived have not been released.

Polk County Mayor Hoyt Firestone was among those at a farm market building Thursday where searchers gathered. He said he hoped the search can be concluded soon so the community can begin to heal.
