KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A snowstorm that struck East Tennessee Thursday has hurt Knoxville businesses, specifically restaurants and bars.
Aubrey's Restaurant Group which operates several eateries in town says business dropped off sharply because of the rain and snow.
They said on Thursday alone, sales were down 40 percent.
"Last night it was pretty much non-existent from 5 p.m. 'til 8 p.m.," said manager Cory Jorgenson. "As far as general business, it tends to slow down when its raining or snowing."
Less business also means less tips for servers and bartenders who make most of their money on gratuity.
Server Amanda Zimmer hoped the weather would improve soon.
"Absolutely. Better weather means more consistency, so its good," she said.
The restaurant is hoping for better sales over the weekend as the weather begins to improve.
