KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Due to icy road conditions, vehicles had a hard time traveling in Knoxville on Saturday morning.

According to the Knoxville Police Department, a multiple vehicle accident occurred on the Alcoa Highway northbound ramp to Interstate 40 westbound.  It happened around 8:50 a.m.

Officials said eight vehicles were involved in the wreck, and ice on the road was to blame.

Four people suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital via Rural/Metro.

It took authorities around two hours to clear the scene.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation assisted by bringing help trucks and salting the road.

Another multiple vehicle accident occurred around the same time on Interstate 275 southbound on the ramp to Henley Street.

Police said ice on the road also caused this wreck.  There were no injuries, but it took crews about two hours to clear the scene.  TDOT salted the roadway.
