KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A male juvenile is in a Knoxville hospital after being shot early Monday morning.

Police say the shooting happened just before 1 a.m. near the intersection of Spruce Street and East Magnolia Avenue.

Police say the victim was walking with others along Spruce Street near the Magnolia Mart when a vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire.

The victim suffered what are thought to be non-life threatening injuries. His name has not been released.

Police say the juvenile told officers that he may not want to pursue charges against the gunman.

A neighbor told 6 News he heard the gunshots and called 911.

"I was on the computer, just sitting there and not even two minutes later my dog started going nuts and I heard somebody running," said Kasey Doman. "I come out, the neighbors knock on the door to get the neighbors up. They told me to call an ambulance because somebody had been shot."

Doman says Monday's shooting is just one of several incidents in the area in recent days.

An investigation is ongoing.
