TDOT: Alcoa Highway landslide repair work could begin next week

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Work to repair the damage from a landslide and reopen one lane of Alcoa Highway could begin as early as next week, the Tennessee Department of Transportation said Tuesday.

The slide closed down a northbound lane of Alcoa Highway near the Marine base last Tuesday.

Five different companies submitted bids for the project, ranging in price from $300,000 to $400,000.

TDOT spokesman Mark Nagi said the job could be awarded by the end of the week.

Work would begin shortly afterwards.

In the meantime, drivers should expect one lane of the road to remain closed for the next couple of weeks.
