KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett was involved in a minor accident Friday morning while riding along with a county salt truck.
The truck was treating roadways in South Knoxville when it slid off the right side of the road on Tarwater Road.
The mayor told 6 News the heavy-duty truck lost control and slid off the side, striking a tree. He said were it not for the tree, the truck would have rolled down the hill.
"It's bad. It's treacherous," Mayor Burchett said. "I'm just glad we got out of there without getting banged up."
He also warned Knox County residents to stay off of the roads unless absolutely necessary.
"There's just no reason for people to be out," he said. "Nothing goes in this ice, so just stay in."
No one involved in the accident was injured. Crews were able to safely return the truck to the roadway.
