WALLAND (WATE) - One of the many areas that saw very slick roads on Friday was Blount County.

A TDOT salt truck had a difficult time traveling on icy roadways and slid off the road on Highway 321 near Walland.

It took several tries to get the salt truck out of the ditch causes a few traffic back-ups.

Along with the salt truck, two other vehicles also lost control in the very same area.

Vincent Summer and his wife were traveling on Highway 321 to Gatlinburg from Atlanta. They had to wait in traffic until the salt truck was moved.

"It's kind of unique," said Summer.

Summer says they have not had any problems driving to the mountains so far.

"I came over 129 without any problems," said Summer. "I hit a couple of slick spots, but just taking my time."

Just up the way on Rocky Branch Road, a driver lost control while going to work and ran into a deep ditch. Luckily the driver was not hurt

Most drivers said they were able to get where they were going without many issues.

Summers says he does not mind icy conditions.

"Not at all, I'm from New England," he said.

Another place in Blount County that saw some minor issues was at McGhee Tyson Airport. Airport officials said several flights were canceled after the icy weather moved in.
