Kentucky woman dies after being pulled from burning home

MAYKING, Ky. (AP) - Fire officials in eastern Kentucky are investigating the cause of a blaze that killed an eastern Kentucky woman.

Mayking Fire Chief Tony Fugate told WYMT-TV that the Letcher County residence was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on Friday afternoon. He says it appears that the fire started in the back of the home and spread so quickly that 73-year-old Virginia Lowe wasn't able to escape.

Neighbor Charles Adams said he ran next door when he saw smoke and pulled Lowe from the structure after finding her near the front door. CPR was performed until ambulances arrived and she was taken to a hospital, but she didn't make it.

The blaze remains under investigation.
