Tellico Plains man dies in two-vehicle wreck


TELLICO PLAINS (WATE) - A Tellico Plains man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Monroe County on Saturday night, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. on the 500 block of Fairview Road.

Officers said 36-year-old James R. Cheek, of Tellico Plains, was driving his Toyota Camry eastbound on Fairview Road.  Cheek was not wearing a seat belt.

William A. Roach, 61, of Tellico Plains, was driving his Ford pickup truck westbound on Fairview Road.

Cheek drove his car out of a curve partially on the wrong side of the road.  Roach attempted to avoid him but ended up hitting Cheek head-on.

Cheek continued to drift into the oncoming traffic lane.  He was killed in the crash.

Roach did not suffer any injuries.

No citations or criminal charges are pending.
