ROCKHOUSE, Ky. (AP) - A miner is dead after being hit on the head by a piece of machinery he was working on.
The Leslie County Coroner said the accident happened Saturday morning at the Begley No.1 mine site of T & T Energy in Leslie County.
52-year-old Jerry Watts was welding on the liner of a bulldozer blade when a jack slipped and Watts was struck in the head by the liner.
He died at the scene from blunt force trauma. Watts was from Slemp in Perry County.
Watt's death is the first mining-related fatality in Kentucky of 2013.
