ROGERSVILLE (AP) - Hawkins County officials say a project that would widen Highway 11-E appears dead for lack of funding.
The project, planned for about 15 years, would widen the highway to four lanes from Morristown and the Interstate 81 interchange in Greene County.
The Kingsport Times-News reported Hawkins County officials were told by the TDOT earlier this month there is no money to pay for the project. Hamblen County officials became aware of the delay when they discovered the project had been included in a state program for streamlining or eliminating road projects.
Hawkins County industrial developer Lynn Lawson met with Transportation Commissioner John Schroer on Jan. 7 and later said the project isn't off the board. However improvements in the near future would be limited to improving intersections for safety.
