MARYVILLE (WATE) - A man wanted by the FBI for allegedly robbing a bank was arrested Tuesday.

The Blount County Sheriff's Department says Walter Stephen Lawson, 32, robbed the First Choice Community Credit Union on East Broadway in Maryville on January 16.

Deputies were able to catch up with Lawson on Tuesday in the Butterfly Gap area of Blount County after receiving a tip that he was in the area.

An off-duty deputy spotted the suspect's vehicle and called deputies and K-9 officers to the area.

After tracking Lawson and another person on foot up a steep mountain on the road, they took him into custody.

Two other people may also face charges in connection with the bank robbery.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office and the FBI Knoxville office worked the case in a joint operation.
