KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A big announcement on the Henley Street Bridge construction is planned for Monday.
Officials from the Tennessee Department of Transportation are expected to update the public on the progress of the project and give an updated timeline for completion.
TDOT Commissioner John Schroer and other TDOT officials will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. Monday.
One of the concerns is the center pillar supporting the bridge and roadway. Earlier this month, TDOT said the supports would have to be replaced, rather than repaired as initially planned.
State Rep. Joe Armstrong told 6 News that TDOT officials told him the pillar was, "much more deteriorated than they first thought," and that engineers are still evaluating its condition, but the deadline for the project will likely be delayed.
The project was initially expected to finish by June 30.
