KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Hundreds of UT students were asked to evacuate their dorm rooms after the residence hall experienced a power outage Wednesday.

The University says the power failure happened early Wednesday morning at North Carrick Hall and could not be restored by the evening. As of 11 a.m. Thursday, the power still had not been restored.

University officials arranged for overnight accommodations for all affected students, but many residents opted to stay with friends in the area.

North Carrick Hall houses 436 male students. South Carrick was not affected.
