PIGEON FORGE (WATE) - Employees at the Music Road Convention Center say they weren't surprised the lower parking lot flooded during Wednesday's heavy rain, but they were surprised at how quickly it happened.

Bradley Fields says the parking lot flooded just a week or two ago after heavy rain, but  it was nothing like on Wednesday.

"We knew it was going to do it, so we had them park up in the front in the hotel, across the street at the inn, and right here at the convention center," the convention center employee said.

Only a few cars were in the parking lot when the water came rushing over the banks.

Alan Hawkins says he was relieved he had time to move his truck.

"By the time I came out, back outside at break, about an hour and a half later, the river had already come over the bank and was flowing into the parking lot," said Hawkins.

Hawkins thinks his truck would have been ruined by five or six feet of water if he hadn't moved it in time.

"We stood here and actually watched it come over the side of the bank and start running out into the parking lot. You could just watch it come up that quick. You could actually watch it increase in flow," Hawkins added.

Workers at the convention center and those visiting and had to move their cars say they think it will take a couple of days for all of this water to go back down, and for the parking lot to be visible again.
