KNOXVILLE (WATE) - There are certain violations at restaurants that will sure get your attention. This week, there are several eye openers.

At restaurants, when inspectors find little things that crawl on the floor, that's not a good sign.

And it's been several years now since smoking was banned at most restaurants, and that includes restaurant workers.

Lowest Score:

Lemon Grass, 9117 Executive Park Drive - Grade: 59

A 59 is the lowest this week. That failing grade was scored at Lemon Grass on Executive Park Drive in West Knoxville.

Below 70 is considered an unsanitary score.

The inspector writes that he found evidence of rodents at Lemon Grass.

The restaurant manager was ordered to call his pest control service immediately. He did.

When the inspector checked the employee restroom, he found cigarette butts and cigarette ashes.

No one is allowed to smoke inside restaurants; they have to go outside to do that.

In the storage room, there was a dented can of corn.

Dents can potentially contaminate the contents of a can, so the food has to be thrown out.

The inspector recently returned to Lemon Grass and the follow up score is a good one, 91.

Other low scores:

Little Szechuan, 8459 Kingston Pike - Grade: 71

Next lowest grade is a 71 at Little Szechuan. That's passing but just barely.

The inspector found moldy vegetables in the walk-in cooler.

He also writes the microwave oven was dirty.

Peroxide was found over the food preparation table. That's the wrong place.

Food temperatures were a problem.

Pork was 58 degrees and eggs were at 51 degrees.

41 is the safe holding temperature to keep bacteria from growing.

Top scores:

  • Regal Cinema, West Town Mall - Grade: 98
  • The Cup, 5508 Kingston Pike - Grade: 97
  • Pup's BBQ, 7660 Northshore Drive - Grade: 96
  • Subway, 713 E. Emory Road - Grade: 93
  • Little Dutch Restaurant, 115 South Cumberland in Morristown - Grade: 93
  • Taco Bell, 511 Merchants Drive - Grade: 93
  • Papa John's Pizza, 7036 Kingston Pike - Grade: 91
  • Bruster's Ice Cream, 7670 Northshore Drive - Grade: 90

Unannounced health inspections are made every six months. If you see what may be a violation, politely let the manager know. If nothing is done, call your local county health department.
