KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville coffee shop has the lowest health inspection score this week and a popular steak restaurant vastly improves its failing inspection.

Health inspectors are watching closely employee hygiene practices and cleanliness, as well as food temperatures as they check restaurants.

We see some of those violations in the lowest grade this week.

Lowest Score:

Remedy Coffee Shop, 125 W. Jackson Ave - Grade: 74

A grade below 70 the health department considers unsanitary.

The inspector found pimento cheese sandwiches and biscuits between 66 and 70 degrees. That's way too warm. They should have been at 41 and below. They were thrown out.

Also, the temperature of half and half milk was at 55 degrees.

The inspector watched an employee clean the cappuccino diffuser with a towel, but the same towel was used by kitchen workers to dry their hands.

An employee first cleared dirty equipment, then started taking orders as well as making food and coffee, but didn't wash up in between.

Had he washed his hands, he couldn't have dried them properly, since the inspector found no towels or hand drying device at the hand sink.

Again a 74 is a passing health inspection grade, but the inspector writes she spent some time explaining many of the health rules to the staff at Remedy Coffee.

Reinspected scores:

Several weeks ago, the Outback Steakhouse at Strawberry Plains in east Knox County received a 60. It's been re-inspected.

That new grade is a very respectable 96.

Top scores:

  • Domino's Pizza, 11408 Kingston Pike - Grade: 98
  • Schakolad Chocolate, 10944 Parkside Drive - Grade: 98
  • Subway, 126 West End Ave - Grade: 97
  • TCBY Beriyo, 9420 S. Northshore Drive - Grade: 97
  • Steamboat Super Sandwiches, 2307 W. Emory Road - Grade: 95
  • Sami's Cafe, 9700 Kingston Pike - Grade: 95
  • Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, 11689 Parkside Drive - Grade: 95
  • Sweet Frog Yogurt, 10901 Parkside Drive - Grade: 94

Health inspection reports are supposed posted at restaurants in locations where you can see and read them.
