Body found is last family member missing in creek

BENTON, Tenn. (AP) - The body of the last of 3 people who went missing after a canoe tipped in Polk County's Conasauga Creek has been found.

West Polk Fire and Rescue Chief Steve Lofty told the Chattanooga Times Free Press ( ) searchers found the body of Nick Alley on Friday afternoon. Alley had been in a canoe with his five children when it tipped in the rain-swollen creek three weeks ago.

Three children swam to shore. Rescuers discovered the body of 6-year-old Lazarus Alley on Jan. 24, and 7-year-old Halana Alley's remains were recovered five days later.

Lofty praised the rescue personnel and community members who turned out day after day to help in the search. He said they wanted to bring closure to the family.
