Jefferson City woman dies, multiple others injured in two-vehicle wreck

DANDRIDGE (WATE) - A Jefferson City woman was killed in a two-vehicle wreck on Saturday night, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report.

Troopers said Megan Bowers, 26, of Jefferson City, was driving her Dodge NSL eastbound on Dumplin Valley Road around 6:50 p.m. and came upon the intersection of Highway 92.

Bowers pulled into the path of Thomas R. Whitaker, 72, of Morristown, who was driving his Pontiac in the right lane on Highway 92. Whitaker then hit Bowers' car, which came to rest in the median. Whitaker's vehicle ended up in the left lane of the highway.

Bowers died in the accident. She was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers believe drugs may have been in her system, so tests were requested.

Whitaker was injured in the wreck. Bowers' passengers, Steven Goehl, 25, of Jefferson City, and Ocean Phillips, 18, of Newport, were also injured. Goehl and Phillips were not wearing their seat belts.
