ELIZABETHTON (AP) - Portions of a palisade have collapsed at a replica of Fort Watauga at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park.

The south-facing palisade, which is a wall made of large wooden poles, was rebuilt only three years ago as part of a project to completely renovate the fort.

Park Manager Jennifer Bauer told the Elizabethton Star that faulty construction was likely to blame for the collapse of several of the poles, which rotted away near the ground. Bauer said the park is working with the state to take bids on the needed repairs.

The replica fort was originally built in 1975.

The repairs will delay the overall rehabilitation project.
