Davidson appeals decision denying new trial

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Christian-Newsom murder defendant LeMaricus Davidson is appealing to the state for a new trial.

Davidson was denied a retrial last month by special Judge Walter Kurtz.

He was one of four defendants originally granted retrials after ex-judge Richard Baumgartner admitted his addiction to prescription painkillers.

Letalvis Cobbins was also denied a retrial in the January ruling while Judge Kurtz granted George Thomas' retrial request.

Vanessa Coleman's second trial ended with another conviction. She was sentenced to 35 years in prison, but is eligible for parole in as little as four and a half years.
