ENGLEWOOD (WATE) - It's been one year since a fire destroyed a Monroe County florist shop.
Beck's Florist was located on Highway 411 in Madisonville before it caught fire a day before Valentine's Day.
Owner Wendell Beck was unsure at that time if he could start over.
"Last year was sad, a tragic day," said Beck. "You never forget something like that."
After the fire the building was torn down and Beck had thought about retiring, but all that changed in May.
Beck moved his business to Monroe County, just down the road in downtown Englewood.
"I have to drive farther, but I'm just thankful to God I did get to open back up," said Beck.
Beck already owned the building in Englewood, which made the transition easier. He still had to start from scratch.
"It's been real hard because we lost everything in the fire," said Beck. "We've had to start from scratch making stuff to build it back up."
Holly White, an employee, was with Beck when his business went up in flames.
"It was just sad, unexpected," said White. "We just really hated that we had to lose the business in Madisonville."
Beck has been in the florist business for more than 30 years. He says it feels good to be back open on Valentine's Day, and hopes for many more years at their new location.
"It's good to be here," said White. "We are open for business. We hope everyone will come out and get their Valentine flowers."
Beck says he now takes extra precautions in his new store to prevent future fires. He says he checks everyday before he leaves to make sure everything is turned off.
