KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A registered sex offender living in Knox County was arrested Thursday after a grand jury handed down an indictment Wednesday on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, perjury and violating the sex offender registry.
Jeffrey Donald Keith, 43, a registered sex offender convicted in Rhea County in 1998 for criminal attempt of aggravated sexual battery of a
10-year-old, was recently indicted for sexual exploitation of a minor and multiple
counts of perjury and sex offender registry violations.
Keith was taken into custody
just after 2 p.m. Thursday at his home in Powell after a Knox County grand
jury handed down an indictment on Wednesday.
The indictment charged Keith with
five counts of perjury, three violations of the sex offender registry and
sexual exploitation of a minor.
The charges stem from Keith's arrest last March after an
extensive investigation revealed that he was teaching gymnastics from the
basement of his home and the cafeteria of a local Knox County School.
Keith is being held at the Knox County Sheriff's Office
Detention Facility on a $100,000 bond.
The KCSO Sex Offender Registry Enforcement Unit regularly conducts
investigations and compliance checks on sex offenders.
