KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Deer Lodge man was given five years of probation for his role in the 2010 shooting that killed one teen and injured another.

West High School student DeMonte Bledsoe, 15, was shot and killed in the parking lot at the Whirlpool Customer Assistance Center on North Peters Road in West Knoxville in August 2010.

Jerrell Davis who was 17 at the time of the murder was a West High School student and injured in the incident.

Police later charged David McCann, of Deer Lodge, with voluntary manslaughter.

In January, McCann entered a blind guilty plea in the case.

On Friday, he was given five years of probation without the possibility of judicial diversion.

At the time of the sentencing, there was an outcry from Bledsoe's family in the courtroom. Friday evening, DeMonte's mother told 6 News she'd like to see a retrial. She says she knows her son was involved in a drug deal gone bad, but she feels the outcome isn't right.

According to court paperwork, David McCann was meeting the two teens to buy marijuana that night.

It says, "Jerrell Davis got out of the vehicle, approached Mr. McCann, put a gun to his head and announced they were robbing Mr. McCann. McCann produced his own weapon and shot Mr. Davis once and Mr. Bledsoe three times."

"Let's do a retrial. Let's do a retrial in DeMonte's case," Edwards said.
