MIDTOWN (WATE) - Roane County is now home to the newest state-of-the-art hospital in Tennessee.

Roane County Medical Center President and Chief Administrative Officer Gaye Jolly said the brand new facility is geared toward protecting patient privacy.

"We have a public access hallway behind which you have to have a badge or be escorted," Jolly said.

Jolly said the layout of the new building offers more convenience for both staff and patients.

"The emergency department is adjacent to the ICU," Jolly said. "They are both adjacent to our radiology departments."

"It's nice to have everything brand new, a fresh start," lead nuclear medicine technologist Kerrie Cunningham said.

Cunningham worked at the previous Harriman location for eight years and said the more than 70-year-old building was outdated.

"There were some inclines on the floor going to radiology, the ER, and it's just nice now to have all the floors level to be pushing the equipment and patients," Cunningham said.

Roane County residents told 6 News the new medical center is a welcomed change in the community.

"I'm happy to see it done," Kingston resident Richard Johnson said. "We've been needing it for a long time."

"We would go to Knoxville or to Oak Ridge to a more update facility but now we have one here," Kingston resident Pam Stewart said.

The hospital brought seventeen patients from the old center in ambulances before closing its doors in Harriman.
