Body found by railroad tracks in northwest Knox County

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A body was found Wednesday morning along railroad tracks in the northwest part of the county.

The unidentified body was discovered around 7 a.m. on tracks at Bakertown Road near Ball Camp Pike.

According to the initial investigation, a passerby called 9-1-1 at 7:00 a.m. to report a body lying next to the tracks.

When deputies arrived, they found the body of 39-year-old Verrana Janene Martin of Knoxville.

Martin's injuries appear to have been sustained from walking into the side of a train.

Detectives said there appeared to be no signs of foul play, and Martin's body was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office.

Martin's family had filed a missing person report with the sheriff's office earlier in the morning, prior to the discovery of her body.
