SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – Day of Resistance rallies are being planned all over the country on Saturday. The rallies are a national response to concerns over gun control.

The largest rally in Tennessee is expected to be in Sevierville.

At the rally gun owners will band together to protect their rights.

The main page of the movement's website says "on .223, February 23, 2013 the American people will stand together in defiance to protect the right that protects ALL of our rights, the 2nd Amendment!"

David Pierce says he's an average guy who owns a few guns. He had the idea to organize the Sevierville rally because of his concerns.

"If you disarm the citizens, then the government takes over. You have tyranny and people are helpless," Pierce explained.

He says when he started planning he expected it to be a small gathering.

"Figured I'd get 50 or 60 people to come," he said.

But then the Sevier County Tea Party got involved.

"It's gone gangbusters in a very short amount of time," said Steve Osborn, with the tea party.

Attendance is now expected to be at least 500 people from all corners of East Tennessee.

At a tea party meeting Thursday night, plans were actively underway. In addition to raffling off prizes, several speakers will be attending. Most notably, the executive director of the Tennessee Firearms Association will speak.

For Pierce, it about making sure people like himself are able to hang onto their guns.

"I don't own a lot, but what I do own, I'd like to keep," Pierce said.

There are day of resistance rallies being held in Memphis and Greeneville as well.

The Sevierville rally will be held Saturday at Thompson Car Real Estate and Auction, 1148 Wagner Drive, starting at 11 a.m.
