KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Police are investigating after a East Knoxville home was robbed at gunpoint Friday night.
Officers with the Knoxville Police Department responded to a home invasion with shots fired at a home in the 3000 block of E. Fifth Avenue near the Knoxville Zoo just before 9:30 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, police found four women and two men who said they had been robbed at gunpoint.
The victims told police that three masked men had entered the unlocked front door and ordered them all into a small room. One of the suspects was armed with a shotgun and one was armed with a small handgun.
Investigators say the suspects struck one of the male victims in the head with the butt of a pistol and struck a second male victim in the head with the butt of a shotgun. Both victims refused medical treatment.
The suspects then took three purses belonging to three of the female victims before fleeing on foot.
At some point during the robbery, police say the shotgun was fired, but no one was hit.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Knoxville Police Department at (865) 215-7212.
