HARLAN, Ky. (AP) - A contracting company is looking to fill more than 800 coal mining jobs in Kentucky and Virgina.
WYMT-TV reports officials with Professional Contracting in Norton, Va., are planning to employ workers at five mines that had previously been shut down.
Harlan County Judge Executive Joe Grieshop said the news will bring smiles to a lot of faces in eastern Kentucky and the region, where Alpha Natural Resources idled four mines and laid off hundreds of workers in January.
More than 2,000 people have already applied for the jobs, but the company is still accepting applications. Applicants must apply in-person at the office in Norton.
