KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A closed-door meeting on school security in Knox County will now be open to the public.

The meeting was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, but has been pushed back to Friday, March 1 to give time for appropriate public notice.

The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Andrew Johnson Building in downtown Knoxville.

School Board Chair Karen Carson has invited Mayor Tim Burchett, Commission Chair Tony Norman, plus the Knoxville police chief, Knox County sheriff, law director, superintendent and Public Building Authority CEO.

Mayor Burchett released a statement Tuesday morning urging Carson to open the meeting up to the public so all parties could be at the table.

Knox County school security has been in the spotlight over the past few weeks after questions were raised over security deficiencies at Powell Middle School and Hardin Valley Academy.
