KODAK (WATE) - A teen boy was charged with raping a child after a terrifying kidnapping incident outside the victim's home in Sevier County.

The sheriff said a 13-year-old boy took a six-year-old girl from her home in the Kodak community over the weekend.

The victim's mother, who did not want to be identified, tells us the boy lives in the same neighborhood, packed with children.

She said her 4-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter were playing in the yard. She had her eye on them, but says the girl suddenly disappeared.

"My son came in here and told me my daughter was gone. I said what do you mean she's gone. I panicked. He said she was playing with ‘him'. I started calling her name and she didn't respond. Usually if I call her name, she's there," the mother said in an interview.

The girl later emerged from the woods with a rope tied around her wrist and told her mother someone sexually assaulted her.

"It was unreal to me," the mother said.

On Monday, officials found and arrested the suspect. He's now charged with aggravated kidnapping and rape of a child. The mother says what happened to her family is a warning to all parents about what could happen in even the most familiar places.

"Parents need to hold their kids close, because it can happen so fast. Just like that," she said.

The suspect is being held in the Sevier County Juvenile Facility.

The mother says she plans to move from her house. And even though it seems extreme, she also plans to keep her kids from ever leaving the house without her.
