KNOXVILLE (WATE) - An East Knoxville family managed to get out safely as their home burned Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called out just after 4 p.m. to a home in the 2500 block of East Glenwood Avenue.

The Knoxville Fire Department says neighbors held on to the couple's children while the parents wrangled their dogs into the fenced yard.

A puppy did not survive the fire.

Firefighters were called back to the home early Wednesday morning when the fire re-kindled.

There's no word on the original cause of the fire.

The residents are staying with family members.
