Vols beat Florida 64-58; NCAA hopes build

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - They can't erase what happen in December and January, but there's no question the Tennessee Volunteers have become a better basketball team since the groundhog came out and declared six more weeks to the NCAA Tournament.

Jordan McRae scored 27 points as the Vols beat the Florida Gators 64-58 on Tuesday night, giving Tennessee six straight wins and mounting hopes that they're worthy of an NCAA tournament bid.

Tennessee's winning streak started after a loss to Georgia on Feb. 6.

McRae has elevated his play to a lofty status, scoring 34, 23 and 27 points in his last three games.

Jarnell stokes scored eight points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Vols improved to 17-10 on the season and 9-6 in the SEC.

Tennessee head coach Cuonzo Martin is 3-0 against Florida after the Vols swept both games last season.

Mike Rosario lead the Gators with 16 points.

Florida falls to 22-5 overall and 12-3 in the SEC.

Tennessee has three games remaining in the regular season road games at Georgia and Auburn. The season finale is at home against Missouri.
