KNOXVILLE (WATE) - An attempted armed robbery of a Knoxville store Wednesday ended in a shootout between the robber and a store manager.
Police say a body was found nearby a short time later, and police said they believe it was that of the robbery suspect.
The shooting took place just before 8 p.m. at Dollar General, 4112 Asheville Highway.
Investigators say a male suspect entered the business and demanded money from an employee. As he left a store manager went after the suspect and several gunshots were exchanged.
The suspect's body was later found in an alleyway near Holston Drive.
Officers have not confirmed the identity of the body at this time, but will do so pending notification of his next-of-kin.
