SNEEDVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested the former office manager for the Sneedville Utility District for theft on Thursday.
Connie Renee Mitchell, 42, of Sneedville, was indicted by the Hancock County grand jury earlier in the week.
Mitchell was charged with one count of theft over $1,000.
In March 2012, the Third Judicial District Attorney General's Office requested a TBI investigation after the Comptroller's Office Division of Municipal Audit conducted an audit on the Sneedville Utility District in August of 2011.
The audit found that cash funds held at the office were missing and a number of I.O.U's and personal checks were written by Mitchell.
Mitchell admitted that she took the money to pay personal bills. Mitchell has since been fired from her position with the utility district.
She was booked into the Hancock County Jail on $20,000 bond.
