KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville is being recognized as one of the greenest cities in Tennessee.
On Friday, the city hosted the official state's Arbor Day celebration at the Ijams Nature Center.
Knoxville won the state's Tree Board of the Year for their work completing the first city-wide tree inventory.
Students from Nature's Way Montessori School were also at Friday's presentation sharing what they've learned about the importance of nature.
"They were talking about how they love trees so much, the nature is like incredible here," one student said.
"It's incredibly important because this is the thing we have, yeah," another Montessori School student added.
Knoxville's Public Service Department is responsible for the planting and maintenance of about 350 new trees in the city each year.
