2 Memphis officers injured in crash

MEMPHIS (AP) - Two Memphis police officers working at a traffic crash are recovering after a vehicle that came upon the scene crashed into their cruiser.

Memphis police say the driver of the car, 22-year-old Edwin Lopez, was arrested and is facing charges that include drunken driving and public intoxication.

Police said in a statement that Lopez hit the police cruiser Saturday morning when it was stopped on Airways south with its strobe lights on. The statement says one officer was in the cruiser when it was hit and one was standing outside.

Both suffered non-critical injuries and were taken to area hospitals.

It was unclear whether Lopez has an attorney.
