Police ID man shot in the stomach over the weekend

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police have identified the man who was sent to the hospital Sunday evening after being shot in the stomach.

The incident happened around 8:15 p.m. on W. New St. near the intersection of Bell St.

According to the preliminary investigation, Byron Hartshaw, 28, and his friend were walking when they were approached by the suspect in a white vehicle.

The suspect got out of his vehicle and confronted Hartshaw about a woman.

After a verbal altercation, the suspect pulled out a small handgun and shot Hartshaw in the stomach area.

He was transported to UT Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. On Monday, he was still in the hospital in serious condition.

Hartshaw was uncooperative at the scene and refused to give his name, age or address.  The investigation is continuing.
