East Tennesseans learn more about sequester effects; how to contact your representative

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - People from local unions gathered to learn more about how the sequester could impact East Tennessee on Monday night.

The group gathered at the Central Labor Building in Knoxville.

Many local unions expect their members to feel the effects of the sequester first-hand, including construction workers.

Building Trade Industries representative Jason Andrews said East Tennessee will likely see that impact next year.

He said many projects to upgrade federal buildings in our area will probably be put off.

He has a message for all East Tennesseans, "What I would like to see happen is to have all of the viewers out there contact your representatives, let them know your concerns. Let them know this is not a good economic time, that America is slowly starting to recover from a recession to make these sort of cuts and impact our economy."
