Woman in Laurel County Jail on drug charge dies after falling ill

LONDON, Ky. (AP) - A jail inmate has died in eastern Kentucky.

According to WYMT-TV, Cortney Renee Beldon was found nearly unconscious on Friday in a cell at the Laurel County Detention Center. She died an hour later at St. Joseph's Hospital in London.

Jailer Jamie Mosley said Beldon saw the medical staff several times since her arrest on March 3, but none of the complaints appeared to represent a serious health issue.

Beldon was held on a charge of trying to illegally obtain prescription painkillers. She was 28 years old.
