KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Tennessee head football coach Butch Jones landed another nationally-ranked recruit for a 2014 freshman class is already shaping up as one of the best in the country.
Five-star running back Jalen Hurd, from Beech High School in Hendersonville, verbally committed Wednesday to play for the Vols.
"I've kind of known for a couple of weeks now," Hurd told InsideTennessee.com. "I just feel this is the right time, and I just wanted to go ahead and commit. It's an amazing feeling."
Hurd is called a 6-foot-3, 225-pound "bottle of thunder and lightning" by InsideTennessee's Danny Parker.
He rushed for a state record 3,357 yards and 46 touchdowns last season.
Hurd led Beech to a state title by rushing for 394 yards and scoring seven touchdowns in the Class 5A championship game.
Tennessee head coach Butch Jones has had a massively successful few weeks since signing players for his 2013 recruiting class.
In addition to Hurd, Jones has already received commitments from Webb defensive back Todd Kelly, Jr. and three other players for his 2014 class.
