MORRISTOWN (WATE) - A Cocke County man and his mother have been indicted for threatening to injure a TBI agent.
A grand jury found that Clayton Carroll Owenby, 44, and his mother, Kathleen Laws Garrett, 66, made threatening statements between Feb. 21 and 26 to hurt TBI agent Matthew Thompson.
Owenby and his mother were upset because Thompson provided witness testimony against Owenby during a trial that involved a drug trafficking conspiracy.
According to the indictment, Owenby told Garrett and others involved that Thompson, "needs to realize that he has a family that could disappear at any time."
The indictment also quotes Garrett as saying multiple times that the agent needed, "to be taken out."
Unfortunately for the mother-son pair, corrections officers recorded the conversation, which took place while Owenby was using a phone in jail.
Garrett was arrested on Wednesday. Owenby was already serving time for the drug conviction.
Both face three counts of attempting to use threat of force to influence testimony.
